    Dec. 22 & 23 - Great appetizer B4 Arby's in SWVA

Talked to a friend of mine from Twin Springs who goes to King with me. He told me of this great doubleheader that had been scheduled for this year and I'm more jacked up for it than I am the Arby's Classic. I've been in each of these gyms for basketball games and the atmosphere gets wild and crazy, and it should be especially crazy in the student sections since the bleachers sit right next to the floor. If you have never been to Cameron Indoor Stadium and had the experience there, come to these games. When Twin Springs and Gate City fans get together, whether as opponents or facing other teams its going to be a wild night. For any true hoops fan, this is your high level appetizer for a grand week of Arby's Classic action to follow afterwards in 3 days. You have to experience it to believe it.

Gate City vs. Lee County at Twin Springs
J.I. Burton vs. Twin Springs at Twin Springs

*Gate City vs. Lee County will be the first of the two feature games on the night that will be between two future district rivals next year in the new
Clinch Mountain District. The Devils and the Generals were long time rivals who had great games against each other in the old Group AA Highlands. This will be a rivalry renewed.

*Twin Springs vs. Norton is steeped in tradition. Twin Springs defeated Norton numerous times in its stepping stones to a rafter full of Region D Championships only to fall to the Raiders in 1997 with what was probably the best team in Group A never to make it to the state semifinals.

Dobyns-Bennett vs. Gate City at Gate City

*Dobyns-Bennett vs. Gate City is a game that has always had a great atmosphere and a great passion between its fans. This is the ultimate Tennessee Group AAA Goliath against the Virginia Group A David. A rivalry that extends back many years with one of the most memorable moments in Blue Devil history coming with the defeat of Buck Van Huss and the Indians in 1988 in the Devils Den. For the ultimate in a Tennessee - Virginia rivalry this is a game to check out.

My roommate up at King is from Bristol and his dad is associated with the Arby's Classic committee. He told me about the Arby's Classic tournament schedule and said that there is a possibility that if Gate City and Twin Springs both lose their first round games... then Gate City and Twin Springs will play each other.
As far as I can tell, the Arby's committee sure knows how to make its money. If its a Devils - Titans rematch of the classic Region D 3 overtime game from last year, all gloves are going to be thrown off and its going to be a barnburner.

The only problem with that crowd-drawing TS/GC matchup is that it would more than likely take place at 7:30AM or 9AM.

Both TS and GC have really good chances of winning their opening games. IMO GC got a good draw as Tabernacle Baptist is a horrible team. Undisciplined and full of playground junk.

TS opens with Urspring from Germany. They are tall, but they have never impressed me. I've seen them play 3 times over the last couple of years and they've never been a team that will blow you out. If TS can shoot well from outside, I think they can beat them.

Got to agree with both of those statements. Neither foreign team is that good generally, but decent. A lot of times they have adjusting to the game over here I guess to.

Not really, it was a 3 man team. It takes more than 3 to be a winner. As good as Ervin, Bays, and Horton were, the rest of that team was woeful.
